Blood Donors Can Golf for Free
June 4, 2010
The Somerset County Park Commission has partnered with the Somerset Medical Center Blood Donor Program to offer blood donors a free round of golf at either Green Knoll Golf Course in Bridgewater, Quail Brook Golf Course in Somerset, Spooky Brook Golf Course in East Millstone, or Warrenbrook Golf Course in Warren.
In addition, all participants will be entered into a drawing for a free weekday (Monday to Thursday) foursome with power cart at Neshanic valley Golf Course in Neshanic Station.
“Donor Authorization Cards” are available at all five County courses. Anyone donating blood and presenting the card at the Somerset Medical Center during the periods Monday, June 14 through Sunday, June 20, 2010; Monday, June 28 through Sunday, July 4, 2010; Monday, July 19 through Sunday, July 25, 2010; or Monday, August 23 through Sunday, August 29, 2010 will have the card validated entitling them to the free round of golf and eligibility for the drawing at the conclusion of the program.
“Blood inventories are low every summer,” commented Bob Ransone, Deputy Director, Golf Division. “We realized that the thousands of people that play our courses during the summer provide a great resource for the Donor program and the Commissioners had no problem in offering an incentive for everyone to donate.”
“We hope this extra incentive of free golf will help encourage more people to make time this summer to donate blood,” said Kathy Puder, Director of Laboratory Services at Somerset Medical Center. “We are grateful to the Somerset County Parks Commission for generously supporting our Blood Donor Program.”
Somerset Medical Center is one of only three hospital-run programs of its kind in the state, and relies on the support of individuals and area service organizations to provide most of the blood used annually at the medical center. To donate, you must be at least 16 years old and in general good health. The Blood Donor Room is open on Monday, Tuesday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Wednesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. To schedule an appointment to donate blood, please call 908-685-2926.
