Bridgewater Girl Wins Name the Robot Contest

October 28, 2010
Nine-year-old Jeanette Sudzus of Bridgewater was the winner of Somerset Medical Center’s Name the Robot Contest, naming the medical center’s new daVinci Surgical System. Sudzus’s entry – D2V2 – was selected among 450 suggestions from Central New Jersey children. Sudzus received a $50 gift card for her winning entry.

The daVinci Surgical System is state-of-the-art technology that allows surgeons to perform even complex cases through only tiny incisions, avoiding opening up the abdomen. Somerset Medical Center surgeons are using robotic surgery in the treatment of prostate, bladder, kidney and uterine cancers and will soon be using the technique for thyroid and uterine cancers as well as for the treatment of sleep apnea.
