Community Education Events Slated for Fall

To promote the health and wellness of its community, Somerset Medical Center offers a full slate of free or low-cost educational programs throughout the year. The medical center’s Community Health Department plans a series of programs this fall on a variety of health issues, such as weight loss, uterine fibroids, joint replacement surgery and autism.
·Uterine Fibroid Management, Thursday, September 16, 7 p.m., Somerset Medical Center’s Fuld Auditorium, 110 Rehill Ave., Somerville. Sign-in and light refreshments begin at 6:30 p.m. Join Alan M. Saunders, MD, interventional radiologist at Somerset Medical Center, and George K. Tweddel, MD, chief of obstetrics/gynecology at Somerset Medical Center, for a panel discussion about the range of treatment options for those who have been diagnosed with uterine fibroids or are suffering from them. A patient with uterine fibroids will share her success story. This program is co-sponsored by BioSphere Medical. Pre-registration is required. ·Healthike Walking Program: Save the World Workout, Wednesday, October 6, from 10 to 11 a.m., AMC Theatres at Bridgewater Commons mall. Join Kara Richardson Whitely, author and founder of “Save the World Workout,” to hear her inspirational journey of weight loss. After losing 120 pounds and climbing Kilimanjaro, Kara Richardson Whitely developed a movement to get individuals active within their communities. Sign-in begins at 6:30 p.m. Join David Aburtyn, MD, medical director of the Joint Surgery Institute, to learn more about joint replacement surgery and Somerset Medical Center’s new Joint Surgery Institute. Don Healy, an entrepreneur who had a hip replacement and then fulfilled a lifetime goal of climbing Mt. Everest will share his story. ·Kids in the Syndrome Mix of ADHD, Autistic Spectrum Disorders and Other Disorders, Tuesday, October 19, 7 p.m., Somerset Medical Center’s Fuld Auditorium, 110 Rehill Ave., Somerville. Sign in begins at 6:30p.m. Do you have a nagging feeling that your child’s behavior seems more extreme than the other kids at school? Could it be autism, ADHD, Asperger’s Syndrome, anxiety or some other disorder? Parents and teachers may have trouble solving the problem because it’s a combination of each occurring with its own degree of intensity. Join Dr. Martin L.
