Free HIV Testing Nov. 9
October 7, 2010
Somerset Medical Center’s Ryan White Clinic will offer free confidential HIV testing on Tuesday, Nov. 9 from 1 to 4 p.m. in rooms 572-575 on the medical center’s fifth floor, east wing. The test will be completed within 20 minutes. No pre-registration is required.
Every year, more than 55,000 people in the U.S. are diagnosed with HIV. However, more than 1 million Americans may be infected and not know it.
Risk factors include: unprotected sex, intravenous drug use and blood transfusions. Health care workers who are exposed to contaminated blood and needles are also at high risk. Still, many people diagnosed with HIV do not have high risk factors, but become infected because their partners have had high risk behaviors.
Somerset Medical Center’s Ryan White Clinic provides primary medical care and case management to adults with HIV or AIDS in Somerset, Hunterdon and Middlesex counties, regardless of financial eligibility.
Medical care at the clinic is provided by infectious disease physicians and a clinical nurse. A case manager is also available to provide support for social issues. For more information about the Ryan White Clinic, visit somersetmedicalcenter.com or call 908-685-2444.
