Executive Women of New Jersey (”EWNJ”) recently honored Maureen A. Schneider, RN, MSN, MBA, Ph.D.(c), CNAA, B.C., CPHQ, FACHE, senior vice president of clinical program development and chief nursing officer at Somerset Medical Center, at its Salute to the Policy Makers 2010 Awards Dinner. Currently celebrating its 30th anniversary, EWNJ holds the biennial fund-raising event to recognize women of professional distinction in New Jersey.

“As part of its commitment to promoting women at the most senior levels of corporate America, non profits and public service in New Jersey, EWNJ pays tribute to 37 accomplished and admirable women for their professional achievements and contributions to their organizations. Since 1980, the Salute to the Policy Makers has become a prestigious list of the Garden State’s most accomplished women,” noted EWNJ President-Elect and 2010 Salute Dinner Chair Donna M. Meade, who also serves as executive director of the JFK Medical Center Foundation.

Schneider has more than 25 years of healthcare leadership experience. She joined Somerset Medical Center in June 2005 as its chief nursing officer.

Schneider helped spearhead the development of The Steeplechase Cancer Center, a $28 million outpatient facility that opened at Somerset Medical Center in January 2007. The center features the Sanofi-aventis U.S. Breast Care Program, radiation oncology services, infusion therapy, clinical research studies, complementary medicine programs, nutritional counseling, a patient resource library, oncologists’ offices and the Sanofi-aventis U.S. Wellness Boutique. Schneider also leads the medical center’s efforts to improve customer service for inpatient, outpatient and emergency care and same-day surgery.

Schneider began her career at New York Hospital, Cornell Medical Center where she held several leadership positions throughout her 17-year tenure, including director of nursing. She has also served as corporate vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer at Cathedral Health Care System for both St. Michael’s Hospital and St. James Hospital; vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer at Community Medical Center in Toms River, part of the St. Barnabas Health System; and vice president of patient care services and chief nursing executive at Nyack Hospital in New York, part of the New York Presbyterian Health Care System. Schneider has also served as a consultant, adjunct professor, lecturer, and board member to several health care and education organizations.
She is a member of the board of trustees of the Visiting Nurse Association of Somerset Hills, which provides home health and post-hospital care to residents in Somerset and Morris counties.
Proceeds from the biennial awards event fund EWNJ’s scholarship program, which has provided over $1 million in scholarships to more than 300 deserving New Jersey women enrolled in advanced degree programs at New Jersey institutions since instituting the program in 1986, as well as other programs that advance women. New Jersey Resources (NJR) Chairman of the Board and CEO Laurence M. Downes serves as the event’s honorary dinner chair. Elaine Chao, former United States Secretary of Labor, will serve as guest speaker for the event.
