Smoking Cessation Group Starts Feb. 2
January 20, 2010
Somerset Medical Center’s Tobacco Quitcenter has partnered with the Montgomery Township Health Department to help area residents quit smoking. A five-week smoking cessation group will be held beginning Tuesday, February 2 at 8 p.m. at the Otto Kaufman Community Center at 356 Skillman Road in Skillman. Cost is $95. Participants who “Bring a friend” get the second registration at half price.
Facilitated by Chris Kotsen, PsyD, certified tobacco cessation specialist and manager of Somerset Medical Center’s Tobacco Quitcenter, the group will help smokers address biological, psychological and social aspects of tobacco addiction. Each participant will receive an individualized assessment, including a carbon monoxide screening, prior to the start of the program. Discounts on nicotine replacement medication (i.e. patches, lozenges, gum), will also be provided. Prescription cessation medications such as Chantix, Zyban, nicotrol inhaler, and nasal spray can be obtained as well. These medications combined with behavioral support have been shown to significantly improve success rates.
To register for the smoking cessation group, call the Montgomery Township Health Department at 908-359-8211, ext. 227 or e-mail email@example.com.
