Athletic Training Services Offered at Bridgewater Raritan Middle School

June 4, 2010
Somerset Medical Center’s Sports Performance and Rehabilitation Center has partnered with Bridgewater Raritan Middle School to provide on-site athletic training services.

“We wanted to reach out to Bridgewater Raritan Middle School to ensure that students get efficient, on-site care for any injuries they sustain during games or practice,” said Ryan Stevens, MPS, ATC, CSCS, an athletic trainer with Somerset Medical Center’s Sports Performance and Rehabilitation Center who has served as the school’s athletic trainer since February. “We also want to stress the importance of teaching young athletes how to develop good training habits, as well as proper technique with exercise and sport-specific skills, to prevent injuries in the future.”

While high school athletes had access to athletic training services, middle school students previously did not. Stevens is at the school each weekday afternoon for the spring sports of boys/girls lacrosse, track and field, baseball, softball and field hockey. He provides first aid, assesses injuries and serves as a resource for parents who have questions about how to handle their son or daughter’s injuries or need referrals for follow-up care or rehabilitation.

“We are very excited to add athletic training services to our middle school students,” said Jackie Loughridge, Assistant Principal at Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School. “We are fortunate to have access to the expertise and resources of Somerset Medical Center..”

“Ryan’s position in Bridgewater-Raritan’s sports medicine program is an important complement to the athletic training services provided by the high school,” said Jack Kripsak, DO, medical director of Somerset Medical Center’s Sports Performance and Rehabilitation Center and team physician for Bridgewater-Raritan sports. “Teaching athletes at an early age how to develop good training habits and proper techniques to prevent injuries is essential to their physical wellness and an integral part of their athletic success.”

Somerset Medical Center’s Sports Performance and Rehabilitation offers sports medicine services for athletes of all ages, including individual and group training sessions, specialized wellness programs, rehabilitation services and massage therapy. The center’s staff includes certified athletic trainers, licensed physical therapists, strength and conditioning coaches and exercise physiologists who have advanced training and extensive experience in sports medicine.
In addition, Somerset Medical Center is the official healthcare provider for the Somerset Patriots minor league baseball team and Sky Blue professional women’s soccer team.
