Day Of Hope Set for June 24

Somerset Medical Center’s Steeplechase Cancer Center will present “A Day of Hope” for cancer survivors and their friends and families on Thursday, June 24. The event will feature inspirational speakers, educational programs, massages and reiki from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the cancer center at 30 Rehill Avenue in Somerville. Cancer survivors will be invited to enjoy music and fireworks at Music at Moorland in Far Hills that evening.

“A Day of Hope” is sponsored by Citi Private Bank, PSE&G, New Jersey Life Health & Beauty and Fabricland.

The event begins with keynote speaker Suzie Humphreys, a humorist, former TV talk show host and cancer survivor, who will present “Life is What Happens to You While You’re Making Other Plans: It’s All How You Look at It.” A gourmet boxed lunch will be provided.

Participants will also choose between two educational break-out sessions: 
·“Will My Family Catch Cancer?” presented by Hetal S. Vig, MS, MGC, a board-certified genetic counselor who provides genetic counseling services for The Steeplechase Cancer Center at Somerset Medical Center through its affiliation with the Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
·“Surviving Trauma & Healing the Spirit” presented by Denise Lang-Grant, a licensed therapist specializing in trauma. 

Attendees may also schedule massages and participate in reiki and a special vendor fair at the cancer center that day. 

Sanofi-aventis U.S., the sponsor of Music at Moorland, will host Somerset Medical Center cancer survivors and their guests at their hospitality tent that evening. Fabric flags decorated by cancer survivors will also be displayed at the event.

Music at Moorland features an open-air, twilight performance by the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and fireworks by Grucci. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the concert begins at 7:30 p.m. 

“A Day of Hope” is open to the general public at a cost of $25 per person.
