Indian Association Donates $15,000 To Support Neuroscience Pavilion

May 25, 2010
The Indian Association of Somerset County presented Somerset Medical Center with a check for $15,000, proceeds from their recent Bollywood Music gala fundraiser event. Ken Bateman, president and CEO of Somerset Medical Center, and Paul Huegel, president of Somerset Medical Center Foundation, accepted the check from members of the Indian Association management team: Chetan Sheth, Dr. Shivang Trivedi, Amit Rathod, Subshash Shah, Ajay Parekh, Kiran (Perry) Kothari, trustee, Somerset Medical Center Foundation, Dr. Sharan Mahal, Utkarsh Desai, Ajay Shah, and Anjali Shah.

"Somerset Medical Center is extremely proud of our growing partnership with the Indian Association of Somerset County and our shared belief in making a difference in our community," said Paul Huegel, president of Somerset Medical Center Foundation. "This extremely generous gift will assist in the creation of an all-inclusive neuroscience center, the next enhancement to Somerset Medical Center’s commitment to the residents of our county."

Renovation of 11,000 square-feet of existing space on the fifth floor of the medical center will allow Somerset Medical Center to incorporate the latest advances in emergency medicine, neurology, radiology, and rehabilitation to provide comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic care within a self-contained unit. Patient rooms will feature hotel-caliber amenities such as hardwood floors, flat-screen TVs, and comfortable furnishings for guests. The new center will include 18 private acute-care beds, rehabilitation gym, throat and speech rehabilitation room, central nurses station, examination and EEG prep room, family room, and a rooftop “healing garden.” The construction of this unit will allow the medical center to integrate its existing services and introduce new ones that will be coordinated from the moment of first patient contact through acute treatment and rehabilitation.

Somerset Medical Center is a nationally accredited, regional medical center providing comprehensive emergency, medical/surgical and rehabilitative services and a broad range of community programs to Central New Jersey residents. The medical center is an affiliate of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and a clinical research affiliate of The Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
